Bathe your feet daily in lukewarm (not hot), soapy water and rinse gently, with a soft towel, pat (don't rub) your feet dry, especially between the toes. 2. Wear clean socks-change them daily and discard when they have holes. 3. Wear shoes that fit well-snug, but not tight. To help assure dryness, change to a different pair each day. Keep your shoes in good repair. 4. Break in new shoes gradually-wear them just a few hours each day. 5. Keep your toenails trimmed neatly, straight across and even with the toes. File sharp edges with emery board-be sure not to dig under the toenail or around the cuticle. 6. Do not attempt to trim your own corns or callus or use commercial corn remedies. 7. Wear shoes or slippers around the house or at the beach-bare feet invite injury. 8. Avoid extremes of cold or heat-if your feet are cold, wear warm socks. Never use hot water bottles or heating pads. Protect your feet from sunburn. 9. Avoid wearing anything tight around your legs or ankles that might in any way reduce the blood supply to your feet. 10. Avoid smoking-this reduces circulation in your feet. 11. For dry, flaky skin, apply emollients such as Vaseline, Crisco or Nivea. 12. For very dry skin try lubricating you feet at night. Use a generous amount of Crisco, Vaseline or Nivea and wear white socks over your feet to bed. (Use the same socks at night all week). 13. To remove simple calluses or corns try the following
method-DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU ARE A DIABETIC OR HAVE POOR CIRCULATION OR OPEN
SORES: FOOT EXERCISES 1. General stimulation: WALKING 2. For weak arches and calf muscles: 3. For ankle pain: YOU CAN BE YOUR OWN FOOT DOCTOR. EXAMINE YOUR FEET DAILY. If you notice cracks between the toes; blisters, cuts or sores; any signs of infection such as areas or redness or discoloration, swelling or pus; report it immediately to your physician or call our office and ask for the Foot Clinic. This should be done even if you have no pain.
